The title say's it all for me really, I do have a bit of an obsession with domino's and they are usually the first thing I think of doing...and then I stop myself as after all a girl must do more than just decorate domino's.
But this week I was checking through the on-line shop and I realised that this rubber stamp sheet was in stock in the shop, and as soon as I got out my set all I could think of was how wonderfully this segment of the larger stamp would look on a domino.
I first of all sanded the domino as I have found that this slightly keys up the surface and helps it to accept the ink better. I then inked up the stamp using stazon and carefully laid the domino onto the inky stamp. ( lay the domino on as opposed to stamping onto the domino as you would usually stamp as you can position the image better and there is less chance of it smudging). The heat set the image.
Using a nice soft paintbrush to avoid any brush marks give it a thin coat of Claudine Hellmuth Multi medium and let this dry, it only takes a few minutes.
Now I use alcohol ink pens to colour it in and because you have coated it in the multi-medium there is no bleed into each colour so you can the colours next to each other, but you can still blend thme over the top of each other to create different colours like you can with water colours. I love these pens, I must admit i was not a fan of them when they first came out but now I love them and I really do need more than the seven I have, I just want one for each colour.
Once your happy with the colouring in think about embellishments. I have kept it simple as I wanted the image to really show and just used a reclaimed watch part and a Tim Holtz game spinner. I stuck these on using a very tiny dot of glossy accents to set them in place. At this point I also trimmed around the edge with some german scrap, but ribbon looks really good too.
Now put it all on a nice flat surface where it can sit undisturbed for an hour or two and carefully give the whole face of it a nice even layer of Glossy Accents.
When this was all dry I added a brooch pin to the back of it, or you could turn it into a fridge magnet or just as an embellishment for a card, there are endless uses for a decorated domino.
