This week I have been playing with paint and canvas and have altered a little 5 x 7" canvas using papers and a few splashes of ink.
The canvas was covered with paper - the paper is actually a map but you can't really see that in the pics, my photography skills are lacking again lol.
Anyways, I used (IMO) the best adhesive for the job of sticking paper to canvas... Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Medium. The paper has a tendancy to curl up at the edges when gluing... so I rectified this by flipping the canvas onto its front and then piling some acrylic blocks on top of it... 10 mins later and the paper is stuck down a treat.
I added Tissue Tape around the edges of the canvas and then used some Cut & Dry foam to add a streaky thin layer of Traditional Tan paint... gave this a zap with a heat tool and then used Old Paper and Frayed Burlap Distress Stains. Where the paint has missed the paper, the Stains soak in more and this makes the colour layer look more distressed.
The cogs are cut using Alterations dies and coloured with Gold Dabber and then embossed with Vintage Photo Distress Powder. The car is cut from Grungeboard and the Old Jalopy Alterations die... then painted with Black Dabber and once this was dry, I sanded back to the Grunge on the edges and raised bits and then blended Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the top... this gives a fabby vintage look.
The Ticket was painted in the same way as the base paper.. then stamped with a sentiment using Jet Black Archival ink... and then I made a banner... using the same paper as the base and colouring it in the same way. I used an Edge Distresser to scruff up the edges and then popped it onto the canvas using more of the Multi Medium and 3d foam in the middle.
The finishing touches are some Idea-ology pieces and the Hanging Frame... which was made from Grungeboard and distressed in the same way as the cogs.
The Ingredients I used are:
Sizzix Alterations: Old Jalopy, Gadget Gears, Movers & Shapers Cogs, Hanging Sign
Idea-ology: Cogs, Lightbulbs, Baubles, Tickets, Hitch Fasteners
Distress Stains: Old Paper, Frayed Burlap, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo
Distress Embossing Powder: Vintage Photo
Have a great weekend! TTFN
