Something slightly different from me today... I have gone all pretty and pastel! Caroline sent me some goodies to play with and this Wooden Icon was in the goody box... and I had an instant flash of inspiration that I wanted to heap it with flowers and make it pretty. I am lucky, I have another blank one to play with too... so that one will be more grungy :O))
I started off by unscrewing the hinges so I could paint all of the sides without getting the hinges painty... to keep my screws safe, I stick them to a bit of masking tape and stick this to my desk... it stops stray screws pinging off my desk. I used Eco-Green paints for the whole project... if you haven't tried these before you don't know what you are missing! They are a lovely creamy consistency and apply really well to loads of surfaces. I have used Cut & Dry foam to apply them to my pieces here, it gives a good smooth coverage and it isn't too thick so you can layer the colours up, leaving patches if you want that look.
So, the base was painted with Mushroom and then overstamped with a script stamp and Pure Gold. I spread some paint onto the craft sheet and dipped the stamp into it. As with any stamping with paints projects, always remember to clean your stamp off immediately, otherwise the paint will dry onto the rubber and nothing will get it off. So, the Pure Gold script was really popping off the base, so I made a really thin wash of Mushroom with water... and painted right over the top of the script, this dulled it down but not too much to obsure it. I used a Gold Dabber to paint right around the edges of the icon... this blends it all together lovely.
I used some Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back canvas... cut it using the Tattered Florals Alterations die and then painted the flowers with Rose and Pomegranate, made them into roses and then cut a few smaller canvas flowers, this time painting with Lake as a contrast. The vine is another diecut, this time with Grungepaper and painted with Moss paint... using Cut & Dry to apply all of the paints.
I cut a frame from metal and added the word LOVE to the centre... aging the frame with Black Dabber and stamping in Black Archival ink. I then layered all the flowers onto the base... adding a few paper roses and pearly threads from my stashly bits.
