This months theme on Tando Creative Challenges is 'Lovely Layers'.
I made a cushion which is layered with fabric, ribbon, lace, applique, beads, buttons, tassels, flowers, stitching, ink, etc.
I pieced together the front of the cushion using scraps of materials and fitted them together to make the square. I backed the whole piece with some wadding to make it more stable and to help with the free-motion stitching and a few bits of applique.
The cushion was made to fit a 14"x14" feather-filled cushion pad.
I added bits of lace and ribbon and sewed on some buttons and beads and applique bits. Using the Tando Tangled Yarn mask I inked the design over some of the plain fabric as you can see in the pink, orange, purple and blue. I used VersaCraft Ink over the stencil and then ironed it to make it permanent. I then did some free-motion stitching through the design before adding lots of seed beads.
The cushion was finished off with a plain calico back and a zip! It was a true labour of love and did take a while to make. As soon as I thought I was finished I then went on to add more beads and more buttons and oh, just one more bead over there and how about a flower...
I just love how versatile stencils/masks are. They can be used on just about anything!
Oh Caroline!!!!! This is the most luscious cushion I have seen in a long time my lovely!!!!! x
